Their enduring popularity makes them an ideal home business opportunity. In Part 4 we're going to answer the all important question: What are the keys to a successful button business? Buttons offer the perfect business for entrepreneurial minded individuals or anyone looking to generate extra income. The small investment for a button making system and the necessary supplies can allow virtually anyone to start their own button making business. Pinback buttons are enormously popular with politicians, business owners, rock bands, teens and even their parents. With the myriad button accessories such as magnets, mirrors, jewelry, etc., the market has grown exponentially.

Buttons have become supremely popular at weddings. Brides use them as name tags to identify key members of the wedding party during bridal showers or rehearsal dinner. They also make excellent place cards for the reception as noted when ABM was featured in Martha Stewart Weddings.

One of the keys to success in the button business is finding your niche as we discussed in part 1. Another is key factor is promotion. Social media sites like FaceBook and Twitter offer a wonderful opportunity to promote your business. Post a few test designs and ask for feedback. You, and your family, are walking bill boards for your button business. Going out to dinner? Wear a button. Going to the movies? Wear a button. Going grocery shopping? Wear a button. Going to Starbucks? Wear a button. If someone asks where you got that fabulous button you can hand it over as a gift. Just be sure your contact information is on the tagline. Buttons are part of the youth culture. And kids love pinning them to hats, jackets, book bags, jeans. So, let your kids wear them to school (as permitted by your school district). Are your neighbors planning a family reunion? Offer them a great deal on memento buttons. Make name tags for the staff at local churches. Know someone who is getting married? Show them how economical wedding favors and bachelorette buttons can be. To accomplish this you need the best quality equipment. ABM’s button makers are made right here in the USA from industrial grade steel. They are built to last and come with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer defects. Trish from Iowa is but one of many who posted button maker reviews on our website. “This machine is a high quality, heavy duty, durable button maker that provides crisp, tight, beautiful buttons every.single.time…I am pressing my way through my 2000th magnet with this beauty, and I look forward to many, many more.” Ashley agrees and even offered marketing advice. “What a great deal! My sister and I have been using the button maker now for a few weeks and we couldn’t be happier. A friend saw some my sister was wearing and asked if we could make some for her band to sell at shows. We wear them everywhere now – such a great way to advertise.” To review - Determine your target customer. Purchase reliable equipment and supplies. Design your buttons. Promote to build a customer base. Sell, sell, sell! Feel the need for a refresher? Use these quick access links to Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3. Until next time – Happy Button Making!
