Memorial Day Buttons
Patriotic Memorial Day Buttons
Memorial Day is fast approaching. I don’t know about you, but for me, Memorial Day signifies that summer has begun. Yes, I know technically speaking summer officially begins in June. But with Memorial Day come parades, festivals, cookouts and family reunions. And don’t those events practically shout “SUMMER IS HERE!!”? And don't those events beg for Memorial Day Buttons? And what does every cookout need? Bottle openers and coasters, of course. There are bottles to be opened. And those bottles need a place to sit. So let’s create patriotic designs, in honor of Memorial Day, and make some bottle openers and coasters for all those upcoming family reunions / cookouts. Photo buttons are a terrific way to capture the essence of a family reunion. Make a photo button using a picture of the grandparents and add the date the reunion was held. You can do the same with each family unit or even one big picture with everyone in attendance. Perhaps a picture of the oldest attendee with the youngest. Now that’s a great photo button idea! Key chains are very popular souvenirs for these events. I’m sure your city and other cities nearby have parades planned as well. Patriotic parade inspired buttons will be all the more impressive when you add a flashing LED. Think Old Glory, saluting soldiers and the always awe inspiring American Bald Eagle. All great images for buttons. As buttoneers we all know picture magnets make great commemorative items. Poppies, the official flower of Memorial Day, have been used since the 1920’s to honor fallen soldiers. What a beautiful and visually powerful magnet you’d have with the image of a single red poppy. I don’t think any text would even be necessary. But, I’ll leave that to you, the artist, to make the final decision. Until next time – Happy Button Making! By Brighid Brown, Director of Blogging and All Things Cool at ABMShare this post
